Still remember about Exxon Valdez ?

When we're talking about tanker history or major pollution cases or US's strict pollution

prevention measures, we can't miss out Exxon Valdez.

It was a nightmare both for Exxon & US government when Exxon Valdez spilled more than

260,000 barrels of crude oil in Prince William Sound, Alaska, on March 24, 1989.

It was the largest spill ever in US water until the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and 54th

largest spill in the world history.

Exxon Valdez was delivered in December, 1986 and had changed several owners and

names.

Now, after 26 years, she's about to be scrapped by Indian scrapper, but awaiting for the

Indian Government to allow the process, because there were some rumours saying that

her hull is rich in toxic substances and it's dangerous to be scrapped.

Still remember about OPA 90 kit (Oil Spill Cleaning Kits) on your vessel ?

It's a requirement under Oil Pollution Act, 1990 by US Government as a result of Exxon

Valdez spill.
